Every day Raphael House is supported by the generosity of our local corporate community. Local businesses do donation drives, offer employee payroll contribution programs, fund specific programs through grants, and offer paid time for their staff members to volunteer at Raphael House events. Without their generosity, our work would simply not be possible.
We can never thank businesses enough for their support, but we can offer them some useful information in return. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that the cost of lost productivity due to domestic violence equals $727.8 million annually, with more than 7.9 million paid workdays lost each year. Employers also absorb much of the healthcare cost of domestic violence, with direct medical and mental healthcare expenses for victims totaling $4.1 billion annually. Domestic violence rises during times of economic recession, so it’s never been more important (or more fiscally conscious) for employers to learn what they can do to protect their employees.
