Designating Raphael House as a Beneficiary

A beneficiary designation to Raphael House of Portland is an easy and significant way to help us create a community free of violence. After your lifetime, any assets you designate will transfer directly to Raphael House without going through probate.

Beneficiary designations can be made for:

• Life insurance policies
• Retirement plans, such as an IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc.
• Bank and brokerage accounts, and other types of deposit and investment accounts (if allowed by state law and offered by your financial institution – please check with your estate planning attorney or other representation)

Designating Raphael House as a beneficiary requires that you contact your insurance company, employer, or the company that manages your retirement plan, request a beneficiary designation form, complete it, and return it. You may designate Raphael House as a primary or secondary beneficiary of all or just a percentage of your policy, plan, or account.

 

Naming Raphael House of Portland in Your Will or Living Trust

Making a charitable bequest to Raphael House of Portland in your will or living trust is an incredibly valuable way to show your support of creating and sustaining a community free from violence.

There are various ways you can make a gift to Raphael House of Portland through your will or trust:

• You can specify that Raphael House of Portland receive a specific sum of money, a percentage of your estate or a specific asset, such as stocks, bonds, real estate or personal property.
• You can also designate that your gift be used for either general operating funds or for a specific program of the organization, such as our Youth Program or Transitional Housing for survivors and their families.

We are pleased to offer sample language for use when you and your attorney are drafting your will:

Unrestricted Bequest:

I give [specific sum of money] [the remainder of my estate] to Raphael House of Portland an Oregon nonprofit corporation (#93-0710963) to be used for its general purposes.

Restricted Bequest:       

I give [specific sum of money] [the remainder of my estate] to Raphael House of Portland an Oregon nonprofit corporation (#93-0710963) to be used for [insert purpose or program for which the gift is to be used]. If, in the future, the Raphael House of Portland Board of Directors determines that there is no longer a need for funds as specified herein or that the specified use no longer meets the intended purpose, then the Board of Directors may, at its discretion, use the gift to fulfill its charitable objectives as they may determine in their sole discretion keeping in mind my original purpose for this bequest.
